Author icon Shopping for baby: Etsy

If you are a pregnant gal (or really any person) and you haven't spent some time looking through the pages on Etsy.com you must go now.  For the few of you that may not have heard of this website yet let me give you a quick run down.  Etsy is a place for all things handmade.  Anyone can go on-line and open a shop to sell the wonderful creations they have made.  What I love about Etsy is that you can find much more original items there than you can at a store and many things are one of a kind.

I wanted to share with you all my very favorite baby boy items that I have picked out for our baby. (click on the photo to take  you directly to the item)

I plan to have the baby in hats all the time for no other reason than its a great accessory and really the only accessory for a boy since headbands and bows aren't an option.

Bluehat

How precious are these signs with the Lord's prayer?  I am planning to order one in blue soon.

I think one of the most fun things that are trending right now is personalization.  It's great to be able to find so many things that are made specially just for you.  I have plans to buy this as well.

Nameblocks

Of course lots of blankets are a must for a new baby, and I love this one for its masculinity.  I love all the blue shaded items but its great to find something out of the normal color scheme sometimes.

Guitarblanket

Any Office fans?  I love that show and this onesie is just too cute for words.

Dundermifflin

If I don't end up acquiring these from someone along the way, I plan to order these for the babies closet.  Its such a wonderful idea and I think it will make organization so much easier which is a total mom plus.

Customclosetdividers

This and three other prints have been chosen as the art work for the nursery.  At $15 each I'm excited to have some great looking prints to hang on the wall.  I also think they are something that can be incorporated into a young boy's room along the way - not just for a nursery.

Lionprint

And lastly (although I could keep adding for hours) is this super cute wipe case.  Just a little something to add some fun to all of the baby necessities you will be toting around with you.

Wipecase

So go spend some time, if you haven't already, looking around Etsy for some great baby items.  What is your favorite Etsy pick?

Author icon Hello from Momma Fish!

Hi there!  Looks like I'm going to be joining The Baby Cove during my incredible journey through pregnancy.  So far, I am 20 weeks down and am staring down the last long stretch which will possibly be the most exciting.  There is so much to left to do and I'm excited to share those goals with you all.  There's baby showers, birthing classes, decoration, shopping, learning and so much more left on my list.

But before we kick off, let's get to know each other.

I am currently pregnant with my first child, a baby boy, that is due on July 3, 2010 (which happens to also be my sister-in-law's birthday!)  My husband and I were married on September 5th, 2008 at a small outdoor ceremony with our very closest friends and family.  Then after months of agonizing baby fever, we found out I was finally pregnant.

I've been blogging at Love and Marriage since my husband and I got engaged and I'm very excited to be shifting from a newlywed blogger into a mommy blogger.  Marriage has been a wonderful adventure and I can't wait to see what parenthood brings to our lives.

Author icon What's in a name?

After months of debating what we should name our baby-boy-to-be, here is what we came up with!

First name: Maximilian, meaning "the greatest". This is also the name of my husband's patron saint.

Middle name: Dusan (Serbian name with the caret "v" over the 's,' pronounced "Dushan") was the name of my wonderful paternal grandfather. Dusan is a derivative of the Serbian word dusa (with a "v" over the "s"), pronounced "dusha" which means soul or spirit. A little research revealed that Dan or Daniel ("God is my judge") is a commonly used version of Dusan. Other meanings associated with the Slavic name Dusan are: essence, lively, spirited, lord, and judge.

So when you put the the two names together you get "the greatest soul and spirit." :-)

What thoughts went into picking the name of your little angel?

Author icon It's a BOY!!

My husband and I were very excited to go to the 3D/4D ultrasound clinic to see baby, and to find out the gender-they won't tell you at the hospital here during your routine anatomical ultrasound, so doing the private clinic is the only way to find out. Here's Doug and I arriving at UC Baby:

Arriving at UC Baby 2

My dad came with us, and the rest of the family got to tune in via live broadcast over the net, which was so neat! We have family all over the country, and it was really nice to have everyone involved! So, besides getting to see our adorable little one, we learned that we're having a baby BOY! We would be thrilled with either a boy or a girl, but it's so exciting to finally know, so we can start all the nursery and layette set planning! We also purchased a keepsake video of the ultrasound session, which I highly recommend adding to your package-it shows the whole ultrasound with your choice of music playing in the background (we chose some classic lullabies). We received lots of pics from the session as well-here are a couple:

Baby boy was 25 weeks during his ultrasound. So now, the real fun begins! Here are a few pics of the wall color + curtains in his nursery:

Baby boy's curtains

The room was already painted before we purchased the house a few years ago-the previous owner won the home in a hospital lottery, and the designers had already painted this room as a little boy's bedroom (lucky us!). I love the hockey stick detail as the curtain rod...so cute:)

So, now it's all about coordinating things to these colors. Anyone have any ideas in terms of themes/crib bedding ideas? I was thinking of keeping the sports theme going, and getting the crib bedding made in the same colors as the curtains, but also include some fun patterns like stripes, polka dots, etc. to create visual interest. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated! I would like it to be a room he can grow into and still be relevant when he's a toddler.

Today we're off to shop for nursery furniture and strollers...I'll let you know how that goes in my next post!

Author icon Real Nursery: Yo Ho, Yo Ho…

Copy of Grant Thomas 168

Elaine from “Our Semi-Homemade Life” was sweet enough to share her baby boy's adorable Pirate’s Cove Nursery with The Baby Cove!

The navy blue and white gives the room a classic nautical feel, but the dazzling decals give it a big touch of fun.

Pirate-nurse

Don’t you love all of the fun details? Charming touches like the drawer pulls and nautical hangings really complete the room.

What's best about this Nursery is that it is very masculine and fun without being cheesy. Also it can easily grow into a “big boy” room as the baby grows which is definitely a money saver!

Want to get this Nursery?

Paint: The navy paint is from Pittsburgh Paints. Color is called “Star Spangled” (color 450-7). They installed white beadboards to create contrast with the Navy Blue and keep that “Nantucket Nautical” feel.

Decals: The 5 Feet long Pirate Ship Decal is from Camary at Hums and Tiddely Poms on Etsy.  The Pirate’s Life Decal is from Shelley at SingleStoneStudios on Etsy.

Decoration: Captain's wheel and oar are from Michael's. Elaine bought them unfinished and spray painted them with white glossy paint. The pirate night light and drawer pulls are from 3buttonsn2bows on Esty.

Furniture: The dresser was Elaine’s Husband’s dresser as a kid. It was oak, but they spray painted it black. The Crib is “Storkcraft” from Wal-mart.

Author icon Real Nursery: Timeless Classic, Peter Rabbit

Whitney and her husband Darin, will be welcoming their Baby Boy, Levi into the world any day now! Whitney kindly shared their amazing nursery with The Baby Cove.

This soft, yet masculine nursery is classic and oh-so-adorable. Take a peek:

East0053

When Whitney found out they were having a precious little gentleman, she scoured baby decor books and spent days pondering what the theme of his nursery should be. She wanted something classy, sweet, and different. She wanted something classic, not "cutesy". One afternoon Whitney, her Mom, and her husband were in an old bookstore on Main Street of a quaint little town and she saw a book that was screaming her name: Peter Rabbit.

And then the Beatrix Potter nursery theme was born.

BP nursery

This nursery is timeless and the mischievous Beatrix Potter character are so unique, but familiar.

Whitney even found a “World Of Beatrix Potter” alphabet wall-hanging and a classic 19th century chandelier as icing on the cake.

East0050

The bunnies and blues are so soothing and sweet. The details amazing, right down to the chrome-blue bunny crib. Truly inspiring.

Whitney purchased most items online, since she had a hard time finding Peter Rabbit things in the US. She also kept a keen eye out for all thing bunny/Peter Rabbit when she was shopping.

Head over to Whitney’s blog, “My Journey Toward: The Glamorous Life of a Housewife” to see even more nursery pictures and to wish her congrats!

Thanks for sharing, Whitney!
